In an exciting development for the 2XKO community, it has emerged that the game will feature an offline mode where all champions are unlocked. This move is a nod to grassroots tournament organizers who are keen to host events but are less thrilled about the time-consuming task of unlocking all champions on several accounts.
This news broke during a recent 2XKO community tour in France. During a Q&A session, Tom Cannon, the game’s executive producer, pondered aloud before deciding to go ahead and reveal this intriguing update. “I know setting up numerous setups during a tournament can be quite challenging,” Cannon remarked. “We want to make this process as smooth as possible. You should be able to host a tournament without the internet, without the hassle of unlocking each champion.”
He continued with a playful note, “So, here’s the deal. You’ll be able to play offline. Hope that’s not a spoiler!” he laughed. “As a tournament organizer, you’ll have access to all champions without the grind. Admittedly, not all content, like skins, will be available, but at least you’ll have what you need to run a successful event offline. That’s our focus.”
With this feature, small-scale fighting game enthusiasts who prioritize competitive play are likely to feel a significant impact. An all-online fighting game would face considerable challenges in such settings. Organizers would need to ensure venues have reliable internet, potentially at high costs, spread across multiple days. Avoiding the grind of unlocking characters for countless 2XKO accounts is a game-changer, sparing tournament organizers a tedious task.
However, questions linger about how this offline mode will work alongside Riot Game’s Vanguard Anti-Cheat, known to be always-online with kernel-level access. This could present a compatibility issue since Vanguard cannot be disabled while Riot Games titles are running, such as League of Legends and Valorant. Whether this offline mode will activate through the Riot Games launcher, similar to current 2XKO Alpha Lab tests, remains to be seen.
We’ve reached out to Riot Games for further clarity, though we haven’t received a response at the time of this writing.
Despite these open questions, the offline mode is a promising boon for the dedicated community ready to step into the real world to test their skills against fellow players. Personally, I suspect this mode won’t be broadly accessible to the everyday player. 2XKO, being a free-to-play offering, will likely keep this feature exclusive, appealing directly to certified tournament organizers.
We’ll need to stay tuned for more details on this offline option. What’s your take on this new mode? Share your thoughts below!
