Janos Flösser, who once led Hitman creator IO Interactive, has announced the launch of his new studio, Wombo Games. This fresh venture is diving into the world of strategy roguelikes with a project named Raiders of Blackveil, which aims to enter Early Access this summer.
Wombo Games came onto the scene in 2023, and with Janos at the helm, their endeavor shows the experience he’s accumulated over the years. He spent a significant decade with IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008 before transitioning to a role as chief creative officer at Square Enix. Janos remained there until 2016, moving afterward to Crey Games to take on the CEO position. Alongside these roles, he also took part in Promentum Capital, initially as a partner and eventually rising to senior partner.
“We wanted to keep the studio lean and agile to explore how far we could stretch our capabilities,” Flösser shared in an interview with GamesBeat. “We secured funding and kicked off in July 2023, meaning we’re approaching our two-year mark. Right from the start, we developed a playable version within the first six weeks, and our investors immediately took to it. They’ve been hooked on the concept since day one, and this is a unique situation for me where investors are as enthusiastic about the team and the concept as we are. Over the past two years, we’ve successfully secured funding three times… Right now, we’re concentrating on crafting the perfect game for the right audience.”
