So, there I was, flipping through some VR stuff when—bam!—Arken Age smacks me in the face (figuratively, of course). It’s making its way to Quest 3 and 3S this November, and I’m kinda hyped. I mean, this game’s already had its day on PSVR 2 and PC VR, and people didn’t just like it—they raved. Like, seriously. Now, I’m no tech guru, but I peeked at the Quest port, and, yeah, it’s looking pretty decent.
Honestly, Arken Age radiates this vibe that screams, “Hey, we totally played a zillion VR games before making this.” Like, you can spot the nods to games like Stormland and Lone Echo. Ever play those? They’re like VR hall-of-famers when it comes to making you feel like you’re really in the game. Or maybe I’m just easily impressed, who knows?
The game’s got a bit of everything—ranged combat, melee fights, and oh, the climbing! You’re practically Spider-Man, minus the web-slinging. And I swear, when they talk about “embodiment” and “diegetic design,” I just nod like I totally know what that means. Basically, it’s immersive as heck, and you can tell the devs really thought about those little details.
Now, graphics—are they top-tier? Well, for a VR game, yeah, they stand out. Not exactly like the tethered VR rigs, but hey, for Quest? Not too shabby. I watched the trailer more times than I care to admit. Sometimes, I wonder, is it the game that looks good, or just the better hardware of the Quest 3 and 3S doing all the heavy lifting? Either way, it leaves the old Quest 2 in the dust. Poor thing, it had a good run.
So, mark those calendars or whatever; November’s the month. Exact date? No clue. Price? Your guess is as good as mine. But you can wishlist it on the Horizon store. Not that I’ve ever done that for anything, but if you’re into that sort of thing, go for it.
