Flip Axis Studios, an indie developer known for its innovative approaches, has just unveiled an exciting project: a multiplayer VR skateboarding game aimed at offering an authentic skateboarding experience on Quest 3 and SteamVR, all without the danger of injuries like spraining an ankle or breaking a bone.
Titled “Virtual Skate,” this upcoming VR game is set to transform the traditional skateboarding genre. It achieves this by allowing players to have full 3D control of their feet using their hands, adding an unprecedented level of interaction and realism.
One of the standout features is a physics-based system that provides the ability to maneuver the board and execute tricks. This dynamic environment promises to deliver a fresh experience compared to games with pre-set animations, paving the way for more creative skateboarding styles.
Though the specifics are still under wraps, there’s a hint of a feature that lets players record in-game footage—a handy tool for showcasing your friends’ impressive tricks when playing in multiplayer mode.
The game is being developed by Jon West, a seasoned expert in the field. West co-founded Easy Day Studios and was the lead developer for the PC and console success, Skater XL, which launched in 2020.
While we’re eagerly awaiting word on an official release date, the developers have teased that it’ll be available “soon” for Quest 3 and SteamVR users. In the meantime, we’re keeping a close watch on the game’s website and Discord channel for any updates on store links, launch news, or potential beta testing opportunities. Stay tuned for what promises to be a groundbreaking entry into VR skateboarding.
