By introducing unexpected elements into soccer, they managed to keep fans on the edge of their seats—an idea Chang Xin believes is applicable to competitive FPS games as well. Traditional FPS games often lack that element of surprise, leading to predictable outcomes dominated by the most skilled players. With Shard Cards, FragPunk aims to shake things up, adding unexpected twists to the gameplay that deepen tactical choices for all players.

## Crafting the Cards

Creating Shard Cards posed its own set of challenges, especially in balancing the gameplay while introducing new card designs. Initially, FragPunk’s prototype allowed players to alter game rules significantly, but this approach hindered creativity in card development.
