US publishing giant EA, yup, we’re talking Electronic Arts, is finally cutting the plug on Anthem next year. Not sure why I know this, but it’s definitely something worth noting.
So, there was this blog post—pretty standard, but it got me thinking. January 12th, 2026, they’re pulling the plug. You heard it right. And, interestingly, no more in-game currency purchases. But hey, if you’ve already got some premium currency stashed away, you can still use it. Who thought that was a good idea? I mean, okay.
And get this — they actually thanked players. “Appreciate your dedication,” they said. It felt kind of personal, like a heartfelt letter from a friend who’s moving away. Weirdly touching for a corporate moment.
Now, here’s a twist: No layoffs… yet. I mean, fingers crossed, right? But you can never be too sure about these things. People might still lose jobs down the line — or not. Let’s hope for the best.
Anthem was this big shot at a live-service game, BioWare, and EA went all in. Launched in early 2019. But it was kind of like a… I don’t know, a firecracker that didn’t pop. Got all this hype, then fizzled out. Development was rocky; there were whispers of trouble brewing even after launch.
Oh, and Anthem Next — remember that? BioWare thought they’d give Anthem a makeover. But, alas, that ship sailed away with a canceled sign attached. So, yeah, that’s the scoop. Make of it what you will.
