NVIDIA and AMD are reportedly gearing up for a big showdown this May as they prepare to release their latest budget-friendly GPUs, aiming to capture the mainstream market.
NVIDIA & AMD Set Their Sights on Mid-Range GPU Market with RTX 5060 & RX 9060 XT
Consumers looking for affordable GPUs have faced challenges lately, especially with NVIDIA’s latest releases being scarce, driving prices way above the suggested retail. AMD’s RX 9070 series hasn’t fared much better, with high demand making MSRP pricing a rarity. However, fans of both brands have reason to be hopeful; Benchlife reports that both NVIDIA and AMD are planning a new wave of mainstream solutions, potentially launching as soon as next month.
Starting with NVIDIA, the GeForce RTX 5060 is anticipated to hit the market by May 19. This model will feature 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM operating at 28 Gbps over a 128-bit memory bus. Notably, the RTX 5060 is expected to consume more power than the RTX 4060, with a 35W increase in TDP. Here’s a brief overview of how the RTX 5060 stacks up against its predecessor:
- 25% more CUDA cores
- Same memory capacity
- Faster GDDR7 memory potentially running at 28 Gbps
- 64% more bandwidth
- 30% higher power rating
On the AMD front, we’re looking forward to the Radeon RX 9060 XT, anticipated to debut on May 21 at Computex, with a retail launch possibly stretching into June. The RX 9060 XT is built on the Navi 44 die and uses a 128-bit bus interface, available in both 8GB and 16GB configurations, echoing NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Ti. It boasts 2,048 SPs, half that of the RX 9070 XT, with gaming clocks set at 2620 MHz and boost clocks at 3230 MHz, making it a formidable contender for 1080p and 2K gaming.
We’ll be on the ground at Computex 2025, covering the NVIDIA and AMD launches live, and offering sneak peeks if possible. The competition for mid-range GPU dominance is heating up, and May could mark a significant turning point.
