Oh man, so check this out. I was diving into some game news the other day and stumbled upon this early version of the 2016 Hitman reboot. You know, that one with the shiny bald dude, Agent 47. Anyway, this version got shared by some cool preservationist folks at Obscure Gamers, and it’s like a time capsule from before the game hit the shelves. A whole year out! Wild, right?
So, they called it “Silent War” in the files they uploaded. That’s like, mysterious and intense all at once. It seems like this build included the game’s first real missions – Paris and Sapienza. If you’ve played it, you know, the one with the fashion show and that Italian coastal town. But here’s where it gets funky – there’s a lot of placeholder stuff. Like, you can totally tell they were still figuring things out.
One quirky thing? There’s this random NPC just moving boxes around. It’s like, what’s his deal? Turns out, you could hide stuff in these boxes. Imagine sneaking a weapon past guards! But there’s no footage of anyone actually doing this, sadly. Maybe they ditched this idea ‘cause you can just pick gear before starting a mission, making this whole thing kind of extra.
Oh! And speaking of extra bits, they even cooked up a main menu that didn’t make the final cut. Picture Agent 47 chilling in an airport waiting for his next gig. Also, there was this character select screen where you could choose Agent 47 or someone named The Asset. Mysterious, right? Guess The Asset might’ve been a prototype of Lucas Grey. Played the game? You’d get it.
Honestly, I kind of geek out on this behind-the-scenes stuff. Big studios don’t usually show us how the game-making sausage gets made, so hats off to the folks preserving this history. It’d be cool if studios just shared more of this after launch, you know?
If you’re feeling brave and wanna mess around with this prototype, the files are hanging out on Hidden Palace. You’ll probably have to tinker a bit to get it working, but hey, that’s half the fun, right?
