Marvel Rivals is set to shake things up starting Season 3 by rolling out new characters each month. Since its launch in December 2024, the game has already amassed an impressive lineup of 37 characters. Some of these were introduced during its testing phase, while others debuted in the inaugural season.
During the first part of Marvel Rivals Season 1, players welcomed new additions like the Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic. With the Invisible Woman’s ability to go unseen and provide healing and shielding for teammates, and Mister Fantastic’s elasticity granting him resilience, the game certainly upped its strategic play. Mid-season, The Thing and the Human Torch made their entrance, bringing with them a flair for powerful attacks and the capability to create seismic zones to incapacitate foes. Now, the developers are gearing up to introduce even more heroes to the mix.
In a recent reveal, Creative Director Guangguang announced, via a YouTube dev diary at the 2:48 mark, that starting with Season 3, a fresh character will make an appearance every month. This decision emerged after thorough internal discussions and will usher in a new two-month season structure. With this change, Marvel Rivals fans can look forward to enjoying a new hero on the battlefield more frequently. Along with this revelation, leaks have been confirmed with the introduction of Emma Frost, though Ultron still remains a tease, only seen in trailers without an official announcement.
The game’s evolution doesn’t stop there. The recent video announcement highlighted more changes, such as overhauls to the season-related mechanics. These adjustments will be communicated in detail closer to Season 3’s kickoff. An interesting update is the introduction of weekly missions, which is aimed at enhancing player experiences by providing clearer avenues to earn Chrono Tokens. The motivation behind this update stems from the current quest system’s lack of clarity on earning and rewards, which has been a point of concern for players.
Before diving into Season 3, players have plenty to anticipate with Season 2. Starting April 11, the new season is inspired by the much-loved Hellfire Gala from X-Men lore. Fans can expect an array of stylish skins for favorites like Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Cloak and Dagger, and Captain America.
Marvel Rivals continues to be an engaging team-based PVP shooter, where players can assemble dream teams from a vast selection of Marvel Super Heroes and Villains from the Avengers to the X-Men. It’s fast, fun, and keeps players on their toes with its dynamic 6v6 matches, backed by ever-shifting battlefields.
With the ability to devise unique strategies through innovative Team-Up skills, players can experience the synergy of Marvel’s iconic powers. Whether it’s riding on Groot’s back as Rocket Raccoon or charging Iron Man’s suit with Hulk’s Gamma energy, the potential combinations are boundless. The game embraces the continually evolving Marvel universe with its destructive environments, offering countless ways to gain an edge and ensure victory.
