So, Meta’s at it again. This time, they’re in cahoots with EssilorLuxottica — kind of a mouthful, right? — to whip up some new smart glasses. Oakley Meta Glasses, to be exact. Yep, they’re collaborating, like some tech-fashion mash-up we didn’t know we needed.
And hey, they’re calling them Oakley Meta HSTN. Pronounced like “HOW-stuhn.” Why? Beats me, but that’s what they say. It’s their new brainchild after the whole Ray-Ban Meta gig last year. The first in line is all fancy with gold bling and 24K PRIZM lenses (sounds shiny, doesn’t it?). Pre-orders drop on July 11th for a cool $499. Sure, it’s not pocket change, but, gold accents, right?
By the way, the rest of the lineup is coming later this summer (that vague time frame we all love). Starting at $399, these new specs come in several snazzy combos, if that’s your thing. They’ve got OAKLEY Meta HSTN Desert… Ruby lenses, Black ones with PRIZM Polar something, and a few more I can’t quite remember.
And if it’s more than just a stylish update — seriously, they promise better battery life and videos that don’t look like they were taken with a potato. Someone mentioned “3K video”? I’m not sure what that is, but it sounds fancy. It’s all supposed to beat the last-gen Ray-Bans, like two times the battery, and eight hours of “typical use.” I guess typical means a couple TikToks and scrolling Instagram, who knows.
Yeah, there’s a charging case too. Did I mention? It’s supposed to bump the battery up further. Something about five mics and speakers that don’t go in your ears. It’s like having a concert in your face, I guess — futuristic stuff.
Oh, and they won’t drown in the rain — got that IPX4 rating. Splashes? Sure. Swimming? Better not. They’re rolling out everywhere, from the US to Sweden, and even places like Mexico and India later on.
So, want updates? Meta or Oakley’s got you covered. Keep an eye out if you’re into keeping pace with tech-y eyewear. Or just want to feel a bit like Tony Stark with a sunnier outlook. Totally your call.
