Wow, okay, so where do I even start with this? Saber Interactive is out there, just doing their thing with these simulation games, and, honestly, it’s kinda wild. I mean, they kicked things off with Mudrunner back in 2017. Ever tried it? Feels like wrestling a bear in mud — which is, I’m guessing, the point. Fast forward a bit, and you’ve got Snowrunner and that other one – Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game. They just kept tweaking and twisting the formula until we’re here with Roadcraft. This thing is like a puzzle wrapped in an off-roading enigma, and people are into it. Seriously, Focus Entertainment’s saying it’s one of its shining stars. Not sure how they measure that, but hey, it sounds cool.
Here’s the kicker though. Ed, who’s usually skeptical about these things (trust me, he’s hard to impress), actually called Roadcraft a “convincing argument.” Whatever that means, right? But basically, he’s saying that even the oddest themes can be turned into engaging games. Construction mechanics, little story bits here and there — it’s like a soup with the weirdest ingredients, and somehow it works. Makes you wonder what else could be gamified? Flower arranging, maybe?
And, like, others are vibing with it too. Steam was all abuzz on launch day. Everyone’s hopping on the Roadcraft train — or truck, I guess. Over 600,000 people, which is a lot. Pullup Entertainment Group, the big bosses, seem pretty chuffed about it. CEO Geoffroy Sardin even chimed in about those early weeks being stellar. Feels like he’s patting himself on the back, but hey, why not?
There’s a YouTube video somewhere linked here, probably showing some gameplay or a fan with too much time on their hands. Worth a look if you’re curious or just killing time.
So, if you’re intrigued — or even if you’re not, I mean why not take a look? — hop onto Steam and wishlist it or go all in and buy it. You’ve also got other sandbox and building games to explore if that’s your jam.
