Uh, okay, where do I even start with this one? Imagine — just a month back, you had Star Wars Battlefront 2 — you know, that 2017 shooter thingy by DICE and EA — suddenly got popular again. Like, it was May the 4th (cue Star Wars geeks getting hyped), and people were all about it thanks to Andor Season 2 or something. Everyone was screaming for Battlefront 3. Now? Well, it’s like… on fire again, if you can believe it.
So here’s the deal: SteamDB data, which I’ve no clue how to read but apparently is a big deal, showed Battlefront 2 shooting from its usual 10-15k players to a whopping 30-35k on Steam last weekend. Can you imagine that? It maxed out at 35,892 — don’t ask me how they get these numbers, it’s magic.
Why the sudden jump? Simple. EA’s throwing a wild summer sale, slashing prices like crazy — 90% off legit has people giddy. The PC price tag dropped from $39.99 to $3.99. No, seriously. Xbox folks get it for $4.99, though, poor PlayStation users are stuck with the usual $19.99. Sorry, guys.
And oh, if you’ve got an EA Play membership through Game Pass, you’re golden. I’m still figuring out this stuff myself.
Looking at those prices… seriously, if you haven’t tried it, now’s probably the time. I read somewhere — not sure where now, maybe it was a dream — that over 160k people were playing at peak last month. With current numbers? I’d bet my morning coffee those stats are old news now.
It’s funny. This whole craze is bursting out again, and I kinda get it. Battlefront 2 does look stunning, even if it’s ancient in gaming years. If you’ve got a good screen and some killer headphones, it’s a sensory overload. I mean, my Alienware Pro Headset makes it sound otherworldly… but who am I kidding, my ears couldn’t tell the difference on a bad day.
Remember, though? At launch, it was kind of a mess, those stupid loot boxes almost killed it. Think lawmakers were even poking their noses in. Drama, am I right? But minus those, the game turned around big time before they stopped updating it in 2020. Moving focus to Battlefield 2042, I believe? Yeah, that went… swimmingly.
We can gripe about it till our faces turn blue, and many have. But hey, it matured into something pretty fabulous. It’s sweet seeing old fans and newcomers dive back in, I admit.
Battlefront 3? Pfft, who knows. Rumors are EA nixed it over licensing — pricey stuff, I guess? Plus DICE is cranking out another Battlefield with — get this — three other studios. Sounds like chaos. But, in the spirit of Han Solo… never say never, right? Meanwhile, we still have Battlefront 2 as long as EA keeps the servers humming.
