Wuchang: Fallen Feathers sure has been through the wringer. I’ve heard folks call it “Souls-slop” and “gooner-bait,” whatever those mean. Now toss “censored” into the mix, thanks to the latest 1.5 update. Apparently, some fans in China weren’t too thrilled. Funny enough, a few diehard fans must be patting themselves on the back for snagging the game on disc, keeping it old-school and untouched. Can’t blame them, right?
So this patch landed earlier this week, and most of it felt innocent. Who doesn’t love a speedier healing animation or better dodging? Sounds neat, huh? But then there’s this cryptic bit: adding dialogues for NPCs to complete plots. Kind of ominous. They’re also “optimizing” exhaustion animations. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.
Leenzee had something specific in mind, turns out. Lance McDonald, a big fan of the game, spilled the beans. Now you can’t kill historically significant bosses. Instead, they just chill after a fight, and you have a chat. Sounds like a laid-back tea session with Emperor Chongzhen, who, by the way, was supposed to be dead in the game. I’m just saying.
And folks were riled up, especially about the whole “Dragon Emperor” thing. Some players said it’s nuts because he was a zombie in the plot anyway. But now, letting him live kinda messes with the whole story vibe. Like, what were they thinking?
McDonald kept going on about this being censorship due to pressures from Chinese players. Wild to think, right? Oh, and they axed the “pray” gesture from a Portuguese Christian character. Changes keep piling up—like those Ming soldiers in Chapter 4 now just waving you through like they’re traffic cops. Wasn’t that part supposed to be tough?
People aren’t happy, flocking to Steam and Reddit to vent. Some claimed mods are deleting complaints. Ah, internet drama, gotta love it. One fan after a long Steam stint decided to jump ship to console. Nostalgia for Wuchang 1.0 is real, folks. Meanwhile, some players are playing file editor trying to rollback the updates.
Despite all this chaos, not everyone’s fuming. Performance improves, albeit slowly, on PC. But is Wuchang’s Steam rating getting better? Nope. Framerate complaints have turned into review-bombs over this supposed censorship. As for Leenzee, they’re staying tight-lipped on the story tweaks. Update 1.5 just went live on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S—so the saga continues.
