Oh boy, Shuhei Yoshida, this guy—he’s been around forever in PlayStation land, right? So he pops up on this YouTube channel, Critical Hits Games, or something. I can’t remember exactly—anyway, he starts talking about game prices creeping up to $70, $80. I mean, that’s just wild, right? But then again, maybe not.
So, Yoshida, he gets right into it. You know how stuff just costs more and more over time? Like, sometimes I look at milk, and I’m like, “When did you get so bougie?” Games, apparently, were lagging behind. He thinks publishers should’ve jacked up prices ages ago! Wild. I don’t really get it, but he’s got a point. Not everything should have that same shiny sticker price.
Here’s the bit that got me thinking. He said, let’s not slap the same tag on all games. Different strokes for different folks, or however that goes. A giant AAA title with all the bells and whistles probably shouldn’t sit on the same shelf as a tiny indie game, price-wise. Makes sense, when you think about it.
And this cracked me up—$70 or $80 for the mind-blowing, top-tier games? A bargain, says Yoshida! I mean, considering the umpteen hours of entertainment, it’s like…comparing a game to a fancy dinner or a movie marathon that never ends. Anyway, folks gotta be smart with their bucks, that’s what he thinks.
In the end—I went off on a tangent, didn’t I?—he’s like, if you’re savvy about spending, then pipe down with the complaints. Yeah, easier said than done, but maybe he’s onto something. Who knows.
