Okay, so here goes nothing — Nintendo’s about to drop the Switch 2 in like, a week, but they’re being all sneaky with the updates. Seriously. They’re like dribbling out news bit by bit, keeping everyone on their toes or something. I read somewhere (or was it on the app? Who can keep track?) that they’ve got some funky new tricks for the Nintendo Switch Online. Apparently, for those N64 games, you can make them both “forgiving” and “nostalgic.” Yeah, right. Like, how does that even work together?
Anyway, the big thing — or maybe not so big, who knows — is this rewind feature. You know, for those times when you just completely flub a jump in some platformer. Like, who even does that? Oh right, I do. Or when you end up flying off the track in Mario Kart 64. Happens to the best of us, I swear. Actually, it’s my signature move.
And oh, get this, they’re adding CRT filters. Y’know, those zig-zaggy lines that make your screen look like it’s from the Stone Age. Dead useful if you’re craving that genuine 1998 vibe and want to pretend your screen’s acting up while playing Ocarina of Time. And yeah, if you want your game to look all, how should I put it? Crappy, in that good way.
Switch 2 exclusives, they say. But, I mean, the original Switch isn’t totally out of the picture. You can still do this cool thing where you remap controls for your N64 games. Oh, and it works with Joy-Cons and even the ancient-looking N64 controller. Which is fab. Or not. Depending on how you look at it.
