Sure thing, here it goes:
Okay, so Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is dropping into our lives again. Those games, like, seriously shaped everything in skating games. Remember how nuts we all went for THPS 4 back in the day? Yeah, me too.
Here’s the scoop, though. THPS 4 totally shook things up with online modes and let me not forget the animal NPCs. Weirdly awesome, right? But the biggie was the Career Mode. Neversoft just tossed out the timer – poof, gone – and said, "Hey, why not explore instead?" Some people flipped (in all kinds of ways, literally and figuratively). March rolls around, and bam, it’s official. A bit sad for those of us who obsessed over that ticking clock. Hope this isn’t the start of something drastic for future remakes.
Now, if the Tony Hawk train keeps chugging, what comes next might be… well… kinda wild and different from what we remember.
Oh man, Tony Hawk’s Underground. Total game-changer, didn’t just stick to goals. More about the story, can you believe it? THPS 3+4 tweaks the soundtrack, which I guess hardcore fans can forgive, but folks, a timer for Underground would just feel wrong, right? Imagine them turning it into this timed frenzy like the old games. Nah, that would totally lose what made Underground – well, Underground.
Funny thing is, they haven’t even said they’re redoing Underground. But if they do, keeping what made it rock is key. Story kind of flipped things, showing us this could be more than ollies and rails.
And yeah, the narrative might not have been Oscar-winning, but who cares? It was fun. THPS 4 even let you just roam around, do your thing. Which kind of led us right into the open arms of Underground.
Quick side note: Only a handful of original tracks made it into THPS 3+4. Tony Hawk himself said they wanted to make room for new tunes. Fair enough, I guess?
Moving on. Underground brought new stuff – off-board experiences, face mapping, car driving – what even? Neversoft really thought outside the box, right? It set up this whole era where skaters and gamers wanted more than just grinding rails. The narrative mattered. Skate culture was more than tricks; it was stories too.
Potentially remaking Underground is a delicate thing. After THPS 3+4, the big question is whether they’ll give it a fresh look. Just hope they don’t mess with its heart too much. THPS 4’s Career Mode tweaks are a heads up – not everyone likes big changes to nostalgia, myself included.
So yeah, fingers crossed they handle it with care. Can’t wait to see if they nail it or, you know, totally bail.
