Yuji Horii, I find, just doesn’t really care to keep secrets. Or maybe he just can’t. Either way, bless him for it.
So, imagine this: you’re at this comic con in Napoli, Italy, right? And there’s a panel with Yuji Horii — yes, that legend from the Dragon Quest saga himself. Now, this man is, how should I put it, notoriously chatty. During his talk, he casually drops that a Chrono Trigger remake might just be on the way for its 30th anniversary. I mean, I almost spilled my coffee reading about it. The host, looking like they just saw a ghost, asks for a confirmation, and Horii — bless his heart — just covers his mouth! The translator jumps in with, “You heard nothing.” Cue the crowd going wild. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.
Now, let’s backtrack a bit. Horii has this history, you know? He’s like Santa Claus with secrets, giving little teasers here and there. Back in July 2015, he kind of let slip about the 3DS versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII coming our way, which, funny enough, Japan had been enjoying for a couple of years by then. Oh, and he also mentioned Dragon Quest XI for the “NX” – what we now know as the Switch. This was supposed to be a hush-hush deal for the PS4 and 3DS. Classic Horii.
Ah, I’m rambling. Where was I? Oh right, Chrono Trigger. So on March 11, this being the day the game first launched in Japan three decades ago, Square Enix teases more celebrations but keeps it as vague as a foggy morning. Typical, right?
Anyway, this whole saga is like piecing together a fragmented puzzle — you have some parts, but the picture’s still blurry. But hey, isn’t that part of the fun?
