Dead Space has long stood as a revered title in the horror gaming genre, captivating players with its chilling atmosphere and gripping gameplay. The recent remake of the original game managed to reignite fans’ hope that EA might consider expanding the series with a new installment. Sadly, hopes for Dead Space 4 were dashed when EA decided not to pursue it after a recent pitch.
### Why Dead Space 4 Didn’t Get the Green Light from EA
In a chat with Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield, Bret Robbins, and Christopher Stone—some of the original minds behind Dead Space—shed light on their attempts to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier this year. It sounds like the proposal didn’t make it far, as talks about the new entry “didn’t go too deep” and were swiftly turned down by EA.
Reflecting on the pitch, Schofield recounted, “We didn’t dive too deeply into it. They responded with, ‘No, we’re not interested at the moment. We appreciate it, but maybe later,’ something along those lines. We knew who to reach out to and we respected their decision. They’re aware of their metrics and what they need to deliver.”
Stone attributed EA’s reluctance to the current climate of the gaming industry. “The industry is in an odd state these days,” noted Stone. “There’s a lot of caution surrounding new ventures, so you have to take these things in stride. Who knows, maybe there’s hope for the future. We’d all truly enjoy creating it.”
The remake of Dead Space hit the market in January 2023 and was well-received critically, earning an impressive 89 metascore on Metacritic. Our own expert, Jason Faulkner, rated it a strong 9 out of 10. However, despite these glowing reviews, the remake unfortunately fell short of EA’s sales projections.
Rumors earlier this year had suggested that Dead Space 4 or perhaps a remake of Dead Space 2 was being developed by Motive. Unfortunately, following the disappointing sales performance of the remake, those projects were ultimately shelved.
