AMD has officially shot down the idea that it’s working on a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU loaded with 32 GB of memory, putting to rest a flurry of recent rumors.
### Frank Azor Dispels 32 GB RX 9070 XT Speculation
The whispers about AMD developing a 32 GB version of the RX 9070 XT GPU have been quashed. You might recall that we previously reported on a supposed leak from Chiphell suggesting that a 32 GB edition was in the pipeline for this year. This hypothetical model was rumored to be part of AMD’s ‘Gaming’ lineup rather than the PRO series.
However, this has all been contradicted by AMD’s Frank Azor. Responding to a post by Techpowerup on X, Azor made it clear that a 32 GB version isn’t happening:
No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT will indeed feature 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given what this GPU is designed to handle, there wouldn’t be much of a tangible benefit in gaming performance from a 32 GB version. Initially, the rumor alluded to this large capacity catering to AI tasks while also supporting gaming.
AMD has historically not moved towards offering a 32 GB gaming GPU, and frankly, it makes sense. Packing that much memory into a card that’s positioned as upper-mid-tier might not yield any real advantages. It’s reasonable to predict that AMD will max out the VRAM at 16 GB for its RDNA 4 lineup, particularly since the RX 9070 XT is expected to be the top-tier card using the Navi 48 GPU.
Other models, like the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44, are set to have lower specs and, therefore, less performance potential. Come February 28th, AMD has slated to officially unveil the RX 9000 series. This is when we’ll get the first real details on specifications, pricing, and performance figures.
Retail availability is set for early March. Coincidentally, around the same time, NVIDIA is anticipated to launch its GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Azor has indicated that AMD’s 70-class cards are set to compete directly with NVIDIA’s counterparts. It’s shaping up to be an interesting match-up between the RX 9070 XT or RX 9070 and the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070, promising some healthy competition ahead.
