Oh boy, so here’s the thing. You know those gossipy whispers that started flying around last year about Apple and those VR motion controllers? Yeah, those ones. Well, turns out Apple might actually be getting all cozy with Sony — like, for real. I mean, who saw that coming? Not me, but here we are. Anyway, 9to5Mac is saying the project’s still a go. News flash could drop next week or, like, whenever Apple feels dramatic enough to spill the beans.
So apparently, visionOS — that’s Apple’s deal, in case you blinked and missed it — is gonna start playing nice with PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers. And, oh! Also, Xbox and PlayStation gamepads. Mind blown, right? Or maybe not. I mean, it seems logical… or does it? Anyway, there’s chatter they might reveal this stuff at the WWDC. Or later. Who knows. Tim Apple’s full of surprises these days, plus there’s this whole visionOS 26 update thing coming too. Exciting, huh?
And then there’s this image, okay — Hideo Kojima looking all future-chic in his Vision Pro. Don’t ask why, just roll with it. Perhaps he’s onto something.
Vision Pro’s been this weird puzzle for developers since it dropped back in February. If you got your hands on one of these $3,500 bad boys, you’d know it’s all about hand-tracking and Bluetooth-y things. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “That’s a lot to spend just to waggle your hands around.” Same. But some games, you really need those motion controllers, you know?
But! And here’s the kicker – let’s say Apple does sneak those PSVR 2 controllers in. You think these pricy gizmos are flying off shelves? Probably not a game-changer in sales. It’s more like Apple just… slowly warming up to the whole idea. Like they’re dipping their toes before the big splash. Maybe cheaper versions down the line?
And this Yondu-looking Bloomberg guy, Mark Gurman, says Apple chit-chatted with Sony earlier this year to make this happen. Honestly, I’m just surprised they didn’t decide to make their own controllers. But they like to keep us guessing — keeps things spicy, I guess.
Anyway, the WWDC keynote is kicking off Monday, June 9th at 10 AM PT. Not that I’ll remember. Maybe just head over to Apple’s YouTube channel and see if they’ve pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Or not. Either way, it’s bound to be something.
