Word has it that Xbox might be delving into the world of handheld devices, and Asus just cranked up the hype with a teaser on their X account, which used to be known as Twitter.
The teaser features an animated robot tinkering away on a terminal, seemingly upgrading itself. Just as the changes are about to be made, a gadget resembling both the ROG Ally X gaming console and the ROG Raikiri Pro controller lands in its hands, leading to the robot morphing into something that closely resembles one of Asus’s premium handhelds.
Adding to the intrigue, the official Xbox account couldn’t resist chiming in with a side-eye emoji meme. No official announcements from Microsoft just yet, but their witty retort alludes to Project Kennan — the venture they’re rumored to be co-developing with Asus to blend Xbox and Windows into a seamless gaming platform.
Although neither company has let slip any solid details, the teaser hints at what we could possibly expect from this much-talked-about Xbox handheld. It suggests enhancements like a more enduring battery, superior performance, and expanded storage, bundled in a refreshed design.
Asus dropped this clip on March 31, 2025, precisely at 2 pm EST, probably to clear any doubts of an April Fool’s jest amidst the tech world’s penchant for pranks this time of year. Remember the April 1 ROG Ally revelation a couple of years back? This new Xbox device teaser seems just as credible.
Meanwhile, keep in mind that just a day later, on April 2, Nintendo is poised to unveil the much-anticipated Switch 2 during their Nintendo Direct event. With this Asus teaser, some are wondering if they’re trying to outshine Nintendo. While the sneak peek might have set the PC and handheld gaming communities abuzz, it’s doubtful it will divert the die-hard Nintendo fans.
