Oh man, where do I even start with this? So, I was at PAX East 2025, just wandering around, minding my own business — or trying to, anyway — when I stumbled upon this game called Love Eternal. Let me tell ya, with the gazillion platformers out there, this one’s got a vibe or something. Maybe like Shovel Knight or Celeste, though… different.
You know the weirdest thing? It’s by these two sibling developers. Like, what’s more personal than making a game with your brother or sister? Reminds me of those quirky indie bands. So, they packed it with influences, Japan-anime kind of stuff, especially something called Perfect Blue. Never heard of it before, but it’s got this bizarre narrative vibe going on — totally disorienting.
And Maya! Our heroine? Starts in suburbia, all normal, chatting with family. Then wham! A phone rings, she picks it up, and just like that, her family’s missing. Oh, by the way, everything outside? Suddenly ancient and fragmented. Picture the cluttered desk of a mad scientist. No idea why I thought of that, just did.
So, platforming. Yeah, it has the whole gravity flip thing — walking on ceilings like it’s no big deal. Can’t flip endlessly though. Gotta land first before flipping again. And there are these red stones — kinda magical, if I’m being honest — makes the puzzles interesting or maddening. Save points are there, too, because, let’s be real, we’d all rage quit otherwise. Oh, nice nod to Celeste and VVVVVV from the designers.
But it’s more than jumping and flipping around. The devs want your brain to work, you know? Figure out the traps while getting sucked into this insane story. Something about escaping castles and gods doing god-knows-what to families. I’m guessing it gets dark? Let me warn you, though, the game ain’t long. A few hours maybe, but hey, short and sweet, right? It’ll pop up on Xbox, Switch, PlayStation — the whole shebang later this year.
Whether it leaves you laughing or hiding under a blanket, who knows? Anyway, definitely keeping an eye on this one.
